Authentic Pad Thai is usually something you refer to a restaurant to make, but I'm telling you now that you can make it and it very well may be the best thing you've ever had. It's not a difficult recipe to make at home, all it takes is a little technique.

  • Soak the noodles in cold water so you can actually fry them till 'cooked' it's called pad (fried) for a reason.. Edit: this will also caramelize the sugar in your pad thai sauce, so do not add the sauce at the very end

    • Cold water does not work in my experience, especially if you are using dried noodles. Noodles prepared this way are not fully cooked and are too firm. Your heat source is simply not hot enough to heat that large mass. He's spot on in using hot (not boiling water). Agreed on adding sauce at the end

  • I hate to be that person but I think the peanut comment was insensitive. I understand it was a joke and to be funny, but there are some people who truly are allergic to peanut and can die from just the scent of it. I am also allergic to peanuts and avoid it due to the reaction I get. I overall love the recipe and will try it!   • My thai wife had some feedback. She says, in bangkok, pad thai has no garlic, soysauce or chicken. It has tamarind sauce, palm sugar, and fish sauce mainly and either has shrimp or no shrimp. This looks like a kick ass plate of noodles. There's no denying that. But this is more like Chinese noodles than thai.

    • @Kevin Shiflett It was no doubt a big part of why i think it sucked. It was too dominating of a flavor and i even used less than him. It took all the focus away from the other protein in the dish. 3x different protein is not a good choice for a noodle dish imo

    • I made it for my family and they felt the same way. This is definitely more authentic pad Thai, but I think European and American palettes just arent used to it. Typically pad Thai in American Asian restaurants is red and sweet. How did you feel about the dried shrimp? My family was repulsed by how overpowering it was.

  • I'm 10000% Thai , all ingredients are correct except black soy sauce if you take it away or change it to oyster sauce instead , it's gonna be perfect. I'm very impressive that you used tamarind & fish sauce and didn't use ketchup , this is the best Pad Thai made by foreigner on SLworlds. Sorry for my english btw.
