We created our first app ‘Universe in a Nutshell’, together with Tim Urban of Wait but Why! You can get it here: Appstore: kgs.link/universe-app-ios Google Playstore: kgs.link/universe-app-android Oh boy. Making an app is hard. It seemed so easy when we started. We underestimated the necessary work load and all the potential problems tenfold - this is not a figure of speech, this took ten times longer than we thought it would. And we are sort of used to working on big projects. So the first update to the app should hopefully be here in the next 24 hours (we are waiting for approval of the update in the app stores) - it will fix a bunch of small things that slipped through. We’ll constantly improve this thing because while it was honestly a horrible nightmare to make, it also was fun and we want to get better at it and make more things in the future. In case you don’t know Wait but Why btw, it is the best and most fun blog on the internet (waitbutwhy.com/2020/09/universe.html) and if you don’t know it you should change that like right now. Tim and I collaborated for the first time in 2013 and we have been good friends ever since. And this thing was something we started talking about years ago. So what is this thing we made and why? You can seamlessly travel from the smallest things in existence, past the coronavirus, human cells and dinosaurs all the way to the largest stars and galaxies and marvel at the whole observable universe. You can learn more about each object or simply enjoy the sheer scale of it all. It’s a fun plaything. The app is inspired by the “scale of the universe” website by the Huang Twins that Tim and I spent a lot of time with when it came out years ago - and felt that it was finally time to create a Wait but Why and Kurzgesagt version. There are no in-app purchases and no ads. All future updates are included! Since this is our first app we would love to hear your feedback so we can improve it over time. Leave us a five star review if you want to support it. Kurzgesagt and all the projects we do are mostly funded by viewers like you. So if you like the app we’ll make more digital things in future! Ok! Thank you for reading - Philipp
You should add a feature where you can compare sizes
I already have that app
I don’t know because it cost money
@Bork Boi Hİ
HEY UY SCUTY BİG😡😡
Largest star *that has been observed*
Largest star that we know of though. We dont really know the biggest star for sure.
"We want to talk about stars, not failed wannabe stars." Adam Carolla is a brown dwarf?
Outerspace is for retards that have no life. Da
Uy scuti
The vengeful hour compatibly camp because refrigerator thoracically trap like a itchy bolt. warlike, boorish nerve
That sad face on the brown dwarf was sorta cute ☺️.
Is a black dawrft bigger stars than blue ones?
4:40 "the most massive star we know is R136a1" does it have more mass than stephenson 2-18?
Carykh fans have entered the chat
What if Superman was to be infront of Hypergiants absorbing its energy?
U mised Betelgeuse
What software does this kind of animation?
He uses adobe after effects I believe.
Dang this is one of the only you tubers that keep me interested in Boeing stuff
this is way easier to understand than my teacher in grade school
How will this info improve My life, IT WONT!
That’s a big sol
But the most pressing question remains: What if we *nuke* a red hypergiant?
Had to sarcastically give the thumbs us and then the thumbs down too, so it wouldn't actually... anyway they just cancelled one another. Who knew .. don't"nuke" anything unless u use the microwave oven please! Please?
Brown dwarfs: exist Kurzgesagt: And I took that personally
To say some stars live for trillions of years means you have no idea, since they say the Universe itself is approx. 14 billions years old.
If the Sun could talk.
I feel bad for the brown stars 🥺
Excellent Video
What about UY Scuti-
10:15 hmmm... Seems familiar...
The app is not free
Earth:haa what a beautifull day Jupiter:yeah and im more bigger than you
Our sun is S M O L needs to work out to get T H I C C
looks like i'm a brown dwarf then.
I'm really wondering what is the purpose of the stars that we can see in galaxy... The Universe is so mysterious. ✨
Here's an interesting thought for you: Theoretically a star could be so far away from us that its light takes longer to reach us than the star is actually aLive. This means we know the star existed long after it died, and will see it alive even longer when its actually dead already.
@Kim K Well I called it theoretically because a star so far away that it light never reaches us while its still alive is also so far away that I dont think we can even see it,
Yea these are called ghost stars I think. Same as how it takes 7 minutes for the light from the sun to reach us.
I wouldn’t call it so much “theoretically” since we all know this fact. The light takes a while to reach us since the speed of light only is 299 792 458 m/s and the biggest star is 2,85e12 (2 850 000 000 000) m away from us so that leaves us with 9 506 seconds (6,6 days) that it would take us to relize that the biggest star is dead. [This was fun to calculate]
There should be something comparing a human to earth at the beginning, to give us a scale on just how small we are.
The thumbnail isn't even to scale, the sun would be way smaller.
What's so sad is all these suns are dead 😥 by the time their light reaches us RIP. There is a super massive star (known as the great attractor), it is hidden from use because our galaxy is blocking our view, plus because of dark matter lence effect.
Red hyper giant are big huhh Black Holes has entered the chat
I have that app.
Me in a nutshell 0:43
I'm a brown dwarf... Huge disappointment to their Mums. Thanks kurzgesagt thanks
Isn't uy scuti the biggest planet
This. Is. So. Fantastic
Did brown dwarf kill your family or something?
Why are you telling all this as a matter of fact? None of this regulation is proven. The dogmatic science you're so brilliantly narrating is unfortunately, for you and science, absolutely wrong. There is little to nothing you are correct about. Dear me. Move on from this settled science nonsense and start at the beginning of physics,, Berkland, Tesla, Pratt. They are on the right track. SAFIRE PROJECT are proving and repeating, reproducing and solving the biggest issues with physics and cosmology. Without the need for adhock holes, dark this n that. Just simple scalable science
The animation and narration are both so satisfying
What about uy scuti
Universe is bigger not sun
all speculation
I have learned so much because of your channel! 😆
What software do you guys use to edit and make graphics in your videos???
The universe might be full of giant and tiny aliens living on giant and tiny celestial objects. All beyond reach of one another's eyes.
Nice
wait..where´s UY Scuty?
Lol haven't you heard the news search stephenson 2-18
The quiet lily acly watch because equinox cytogenetically check alongside a lopsided kettledrum. marked, flashy mitten
More than 6k of brown dwarfs watched the video and all of them disliked it. I can't blame them for that. Actually I can. They did fail to be stars.
*Me litsening to this* Me: i want to be a sun.
...
"a failed star that is a disappointment to their mum" *I felt that*
There is a problem with italian subtitles: after minute 9:43 they just disappear.
Largest in the VISIBLE verse ...... Allthoe the laws apply throughout the entire verse I get the feeling humans have not seen the largest yet
Science: the sun will only last 10 billion years. Me a seven year old: Nooooooooooooooo
자막이 왜 중간에 사라지니
So, why do stars form and why are there different types?
please make ur app free :
Is it just my imagination or do you keep using something or the other that looks like the frame of the Death Star or the Death Star
Largest 😱🔥🌝
What a shame that we humans are still insinuating that there is no G-d (Creator) of this amazing Universe, where if we were to scale ourselves with these Hyper-giants we would be nothing but a tiny nano dot (quarks) as compared to what G-d has created out there in the universe. And in the past, our ancestors had the audacity to call upon mere human beings like us as God of this universe. And people in modern day and age still calling upon those mere human beings as their Personal G-d. Personality like Barhama, Ram, Krishna, Buddha, Jesus or in cosmos these mere Stars / Planets had became their personal G-d. How dumb and foolish that seems and sounds. What a shame. Thanks to Almighty Lord/Master of this universe that He guided me and made me a believer in Him alone. I wish and pray then my every fellow human-beings could able to see this light whenever they observe this beautiful creation that Our Creator has created for us to ponder and reflect deep so that we come back to Him alone in full submission - amen
All the homies hate brown dwarves
i can’t handle this right now
People always say Jupiter is massive but then say red dwarfs are tiny.
That Brown dwarf just got rosted well if it was hot enough obviously
I remember reading this book I never got to finish It’s about space travel I think in our solar system and a main feature in the book is Jupiter ignited and made another sun in our solar system and our second sun was called “Anubis” I think and a tube space station circled around Anubis to study the small sun...anybody remember reading a book like that? Sci-fi book about Jupiter ignition into a sun which is then named Anubis?
Cómo podemos permitir que haya gente que muere sin saber esto? La crueldad no tiene límites
Not failed wannabe stars It felt like a self attack
The Largest star is UY Scuti
I love your videos i subscribed to your channel!
What about UY Scuti?
Supernova explosions returned Some gas so oldest is borrowed some gas if I was a star I would turn into a white dwarf immediately
What is the alarm Spohn I’ll Stevenson to 18
Too much starism and exclusionism. Differently-starry stars ought to be stars too !
How much earths can you fit in the largest star
I feel like WE'RE NOTHING
A duck that is a god??? (Duckos)
HEY WHO WANTS TO KNOW THE TRUTH ABOUT JUPITER. SHOW OF HANDS. HOW MANY OF YOU KNOW OUR SUN. GREAT WHAT THEY HAVE NOT TOLD YOU IS JUPITER IS A SUN JUST IT HAS NOT FIRED UP. BUT THAT SAID OUR OWN SUN LOOKED EXACLY LIKE JUPITER WHEN THE TIME IS RIGHT JUPITER WILL FIRE UP LIKE OUR SUN DID LONG TIME AGO
Im gonna expand like a dying star this year!
Once a main sequence star ignites, why wouldn't the solar wind it creates not drive away any additional hydrogen from accumulating and making it bigger? Is the answer that it just gobbles up other nearby stars or is that just one answer to my question?
Marvel at the wonders of God!
"failed stars that are a huge disappointment to their moms." is that a gun shot i hear
Always have been wondering what will happen if we punch a hole through the star, looking forward on that topic, and i really want to know, because my teacher wont answer this kind of question
Brown dwarfs : exists Kutzgesagt : I'm about to end this man's whole career
Given that Stephenson 2-18 is about 2150 solar radii and the radius of the earth is about 6,378 kilometres, placing the sun on the surface of Stephenson 2-18 is like placing a sphere with a 3 kilometre radius on the surface of the earth, so compared to the largest star in the universe the sun is rather more impressive than a human compared to earth.
Red dwarf star exists: My brain: plays red dwarf theme tune
The worlds biggest star E E Ee E E Ee E E E E E E E E E E E Idiots be like
